You can now apply for an aged care assessment online
The first step to access government-funded aged care services is to check your eligibility for a face-to-face assessment.
A new online form is available on the My Aged Care website that allows you or someone acting on their behalf to:
- register with My Aged Care and/or
- apply for an initial assessment online.
The form can be completed in your own time as an alternative to calling the My Aged Care contact centre.
As a reminder, My Aged Care is essentially the portal everyone needs to access for ‘all things related to aged care’.
Previously a booking for an assessment could only be done over the phone or via a health care professional.
Now you can call the contact centre staff to talk about your needs on 1800 200 422
Or you can apply online.
A few tips to look out for:
(a) Ensure you understand the fees
(b) ask who will be your case manager and what service they offer (e.g frequency of visits, updating care as needed)
(c) do they have support workers who are consistently assigned to you;
(d) arrange for a family member/friend for support and advocacy; and
(e) ask questions about what activities are offered to keep you engaged and connected with your community.
