If you are approved under the Support at Home program, the process is refreshingly simple. “You can call or email us directly,” says Karla. “Or, if you have an occupational therapy (OT) report, that can come through to us with photos and measurements. We also have an installer based in Canberra who can visit your home, assess your needs, and provide a quote.” And here’s the standout: no long waits.

“We’re ready to go,” Karla says with a smile. “Once we have approval, we can schedule work as soon as the next day or the following week. Some companies have wait times of weeks or months—but we are here now.”

HomeMods doesn’t stop at ramps and rails. “We also offer maintenance services,” Karla adds. “Things like gardening, lawn mowing, and odd jobs around the house. It’s about making life easier and safer.” This additional support is a game-changer for clients who often struggle to find reliable help for everyday tasks.

Karla’s journey into this industry is inspiring. “My background was corporate—I worked in a law firm,” she shares. “But after having kids, my priorities changed. I wanted work that mattered. Helping people stay independent, seeing the difference small changes make—that’s what gives me satisfaction.” She’s candid about the challenges too. “It’s hard to understand why there are such long wait times and why accessing modifications can be so difficult. Any little thing we can do to help is a win.”
